What is a Widening Kit? What this spacer does is allow you to run IFS wheel hubs on a straight axle front end. IFS wheel hubs wheel flanges are offset further to allow the front ends of these trucks to match up to the rear, which is 58 inch's wide. A pair of these CNC machined spacers is needed to adapt either your current solid axle rotors and calipers, or the upgraded IFS V6 calipers and FJ-60 series vented rotors. We supply all needed hardware to bolt this spacer to the rotor, dowel pins are no longer used as the adapter has been threaded to use factory solid axle alignment bolt. Note: some early year axles do not have this bolt, you will need to find donor hardware, 8mmx1.25x25. This can be done in your garage, no special equipment needed. Average install time with correct tools and parts is 2.5 hours. 79-85 Toyota Solid Axle Widening Kit Instructions: Parts included in this kit: 2 Wide Axle Spacers 2 hub seals 12 low head socket cap screws Parts you will need to supply: 2 IFS Toyota wheel hubs 2 Toyota vented fj-60 Rotors( reference year 1984). IFS Calipers, late model V6 Four Runner is the largest. You may also use your factory solid axle caliper and rotor if brake upgrades are not wanted. Before beginning installation you must support the vehicle in a safe manner, IE Correct jack stands or vehicle lift is recommended following ASE standards. Please refer to ASE handbook if unsure of correct vehicle support method. To install the widening kit you must first strip the Toyota ifs wheel hubs to just the hub, remove the rear seal, inspect wheel bearings, replace if needed. You may then install new seal provided. Next step is to install the brake rotor spacer. Due to slight variances in Toyota wheel hubs this may require machining the ifs hub slightly to flush fit the spacer on the back side of the IFS wheel hub. You will reuse the stock IFS rotor bolts to secure the rotor spacer to the wheel hub, I recommend blue loc tite using factory torque specs. Next you will install the brake rotor of choice, either stock or FJ-60. There are 2 bolt holes in the adapter plate, these will reuse the bolts that hold the solid axle rotor in place on the solid axle wheel hub. I generally bolt the rotor to the spacer and check run out then align if needed. Tighten all bolts, and use blue loctite. Torque to 60-70 ft pounds. You may now tear into the solid axle front end and remove all parts up to the spindle. Now is a good time to service the knuckle bearings and seals if needed which we can also provide. Installation is simple, as you install the IFS hub with rotors and adapter same as you removed the solid axle parts. Be sure the rotor is towards the center of the axle and the wheel lug studs to the outside of the axle. Install bearing retaining nuts per factory manual instructions. You will reuse the factory Toyota solid axle locking hubs. You may now reinstall the brake calipers, with factory hardware. If you have changed your calipers make sure you follow proper brake bleeding procedures. If you do not believe you have the tools and mechanical ability to install this kit, please have a competent 4 wheel drive shop perform the install.
